A few weeks ago we were fortunate enough to fit in the Taylor Swift Era’s Tour during our recent trip to Portugal. While we considered ourselves fans of Taylor and her music, we by no means considered ourselves “Swifties.” However, once we attended the concert, we were officially converted and now huge fans! The Eras Tour definitely did not disappoint and we’re here to share 3 of the things we wish we knew before attending this epic concert.

1 - Plan Your Outfit Strategically

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is as much a fashion show as it is a concert. Think lots of sparkles, ombré and sequins. Our founder, Christina, found a pre-loved rainbow sequin dress on Poshmark. A dress Taylor once wore herself! While it’s tempting to go all out, remember to balance style with comfort. Here are a few tips:

  • Comfort First: You’ll be on your feet a lot, dancing and singing along. Choose comfortable shoes over high heels or new sneakers that might cause blisters. We opted to wear our Gold and Pink Paisley sneakers for a little pop of color and comfort.
  • Weather-Appropriate: Check the weather forecast for the concert day. Outdoor venues can get chilly at night, so bring a jacket if necessary. We were lucky the weather in Lisbon was ideal – not too hot or cold, but we have heard some shows have rained and others too hot, so plan accordingly!
  • Essential Accessories: A small crossbody bag is necessary. It keeps your hands free and is perfect for carrying essentials like your phone, tickets, and some cash. You’ll want to check the venue to see if they have any specific bag requirements (i.e. a clear bag, or a certain size limit).

2 - Arrive Early and Know the Venue

We were a bit shocked that some people camped out overnight to be the first to get in! While we get the excitement, we don’t think it’s 100% necessary to do so. We do receommend getting to the arena early if you can to buy some merch and plan the best route to get in.

  • Merchandise: Taylor Swift’s tour merch is highly coveted, and sells out quickly. If you can, arrive at the stadium in the morning or early afternoon to beat the long lines and have a better change of snagging the best sizes.
  • Familiarize Yourself: Knowing the layout of the venue can save you a lot of hassle. Find out where the entrances, exits, restrooms, and concession stands are. This can help you navigate the crowd and avoid long lines.
  • Getting There: Since all of the shows are in huge arenas, it’s best to take public transportation if available. We opted to take the subway from Lisbon to the Estadio da Luz. Note: they get quite packed so if you’re claustrophobic, try to grab a seat. While it’s tempting to stay for the entire 4+ hour show, consider leaving a song or two early to beat the mad rush out of the stadium.

3 - Prepare for one of the best nights of your life

Taylor Swift is unlike any performer of our time. If you don’t believe us, just attend her show and you’ll see. The Eras Tour isn’t at all over-hyped. It really is THAT good.

  • Phone: Make sure to bring an extra battery pack for your cell phone to take lots of videos and pictures to capture the special night.
  • Hydrate and Snack: Don’t forget to drink lots of fluids the morning of. You may want to cut back come the concert time to avoid missing too much of the show. Eat a late lunch/early dinner and bring some protein bars since the stadium food may not be all that great.
  • Ear Plugs: Protect your hearing and bring a pair of ear plugs. There’s nothing worse than waking up the next morning with ringing in your ears.
  • Let Loose: Now’s your chance to shake it off, forget about any worries and just have fun! Taylor fans are generally very kind and considerate, so share the love and spread good vibes all around.

Final Thoughts

The Eras Tour really did not disappoint. If you have the opporutnity to go, don’t wait! We found tickets to be quite a bit cheaper in Lisbon, Portugal than in the U.S. (even with airfare and hotel). If it’s just not in the cards this time, definitely watch the concert on Disney +. Until next time, Taylor!
