Meet Lilibeth Bustos
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background and what you do?
Hola! I'm Lilibeth, a Lead Product Designer and Illustrator from Bogotá, Colombia, currently living in NYC. I studied mass communications and journalism in Colombia, but later in the USA, I switched career paths and became a visual designer, focusing on UX-UI. This journey brought me to where I am now at Nuvocargo, where I optimize the digital experience in shipments between the USA and Mexico. Beyond work, I'm passionate about giving back to my design community. I teach UX-UI at Memorisely and mentor aspiring designers through Adplist. Additionally, I hold a co-Leader position at Latinas in Tech NYC, furthering my commitment to empowering individuals and fostering inclusivity. Last but not least, I'm the CEO and founder of SoulDoodles, an inclusive community of talented creatives. Through SoulDoodles, I aim to inspire individuals to embrace their artistic potential and utilize art as a catalyst for positive change.

Q: What were some of the challenges you've faced, and how did you overcome them?
As in life, we all experience challenges. In my case, being the first immigrant in my family opened a space for growth and learning. During the past 8 years, I experienced challenges with my visa process, which is one of the most difficult things when moving from a different country, especially to the USA. Despite the tears and personal experiences, I look back with love and pride for how these challenges shaped who I am now. To overcome them, I stayed positive, grateful for what I have, and always looked for solutions to the problems. As long as we are healthy, everything in life can be fixed.
Q: As a successful woman in business, what advice would you give to other women?
We can be hard on ourselves, and I've learned to celebrate the little wins and set clear goals. Surrounding yourself with supportive friends who remind you of the awesome person you are is beneficial. For me, my motivation every day is to be someone who brings positive change and inspiration to others, even from a little country like Colombia's "Villeta." Having a goal that connects with your values is unstoppable.
Q: Do you have any tips for women on finding their purpose and calling in life?
Finding purpose takes time, but deep inside, you know what brings you energy. If you start something because others do, it may not be your true purpose. Connecting with your values and what gives you energy leads to finding your purpose. For me, teaching and giving back to others are fundamental aspects that drive various ventures.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work, and what brings you joy?
Outside of work, I find joy in SoulDoodles, interviewing artists and illustrators, learning about their journeys; doodling, laughing at silly things, teaching, and guiding others. I also enjoy cycling, yoga, barre, preparing a good meal for my friends, traveling, and learning about different cultures.
Q: What's your personal style? What makes you feel your best and most confident self?
I've always had a classic style. Growing up in Colombia, I never felt that I could fit into the specific way women wanted to look. I prefer having a basic wardrobe with essential pieces, being a minimalist. I only buy what truly resonates with me, making me feel good while also being mindful of contributing to less waste on our planet.
Q: What do you think of your new Joyasol shoes?
I've been following Joyasol's journey since the beginning and had the privilege to work with Christina, the Founder. I know where the idea is coming from, and I love and support it. Christina's transparency and study of sustainability to create her business mean a lot. I love the shoes; they are classic, sophisticated, and the leather is of excellent quality.
Q: Do you have anything else you'd like to share with the Joyasol community?
Supporting women and community is crucial in today's world. Encouraging others to achieve their dreams will benefit all of us. I'm excited to see how this awesome brand will continue making an impact in the world! Thank you, Christina and team, for the feature!
