3 Simple Ways to Add More Joy This Fall
Life can be a lot sometimes, right? Between the endless to-do lists, juggling work and a family, and hearing the difficult things happening in the news, it’s easy to get caught up in it all and forgetting to prioritize our own mental health, wellbeing and joy. Especially with the holiday season right around the corner!
It’s important to remember that happiness isn’t something that is reserved for big moments. It can be found everyday through simple acts. Here are 3 things you can do each day to bring more joy into your life:
1 - Practice Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful tool for shifting our perspective and inviting more joy into our lives.
Each day, take a moment to reflect on the things you're grateful for. It could be as simple as the warm pumpkin spice latte in the morning or keeping a gratitude journal and writing down three things you’re thankful for each day. Over time, you'll begin to notice all of the positive experiences in your life.
When we focus on what we have instead of what we don’t, we become happier and more content. Being grateful reminds us that beauty exists in small, everyday experiences.
2 - Engage in Acts of Kindness
Being kind to others, no matter how big or small, has a big impact on our lives and wellbeing.
Make it a daily habit to do something kind for someone else. It could be as simple as holding the door open for a mom with a stroller, complimenting a coworker, or making home cooked lasagne for your friend.
Not only do these brighten someone else's day, but they also help release feel-good chemicals in your brain, boosting your own happiness.
It’s important not to forget to be kind to yourself. Indulge in self-care everyday. It can be as little as watching your favorite trashy tv show to a eating a rich piece of dark chocolate and wine to pampering yourself with a facemask and bubble bath.
3 - Connect with Nature
In our highly connected world, it's easy to become disconnected from the natural world. However, spending time in nature is a proven way to boost happiness and reduce stress. Make it a daily priority to get outside, even if it's just for a few minutes. Take a walk in the park, or simply step outside onto your patio or garden. Feel the ground beneath you and take a few deep breaths. There’s no better time than the fall to enjoy nature than with the changing leaves.
Joy is not an elusive concept reserved for special occasions. It's something we can actively cultivate in our daily lives. By practicing gratitude, engaging in acts of kindness, and connecting with nature, you can fill your days with more happiness, joy and fulfillment.
